Our Story

Before Buddy’s Boy was a bottle, it was a way of life.

It was land.

It was family.

It was early mornings, long days, full hands, and something always needing to be picked, chopped, cooked, fixed, fed, or gathered.

Our family story is rooted in the farm. We grew corn, collard greens, squash, peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, acorns, butternut squash, string beans, and butter beans. We raised chickens and hogs. We picked from the land, chopped what we harvested, cooked what we grew, and shared what we had.

On the farm, there was always something to do.

There were gardens to tend, animals to care for, vegetables to gather, and meals to prepare. There were whole hogs on the grill, smoke in the air, and family gathered around food that meant more than just eating. Food was how we came together. It was how stories were told. It was how traditions were passed down.

The name Buddy’s Boy comes from that same legacy.

“Buddy” was the nickname of my grandfather, Percy Barksdale Sr. His son, Percy Barksdale Jr., is Buddy’s boy. That relationship — father to son, generation to generation — is the heart of this brand.

My father was inspired by his father throughout his life. That inspiration eventually led him to start his own grill manufacturing business called Percy Grills. It was more than a business. It was a reflection of what he knew, what he had seen, and what had been passed down to him — fire, food, craftsmanship, and family.

Our family did not just talk about legacy.

We lived it.

We farmed. We grilled. We hunted. We fished. We raised animals. We worked the land. We learned how to make something out of what we had. Hunting squirrels, raccoons, and rabbits, fishing, cooking, preserving, gathering — all of it was part of a life built around provision, resourcefulness, and family.

Buddy’s Boy Sauce was born from that kind of living.

It carries the flavor of backyard grills, farm-raised meals, Southern tables, and the kind of family gatherings where everybody had a job and everybody had a plate. It is rich, savory, slightly sweet, and made for grilling, glazing, dipping, and more.

But more than anything, Buddy’s Boy is our way of keeping the story alive.

It honors the men who came before us.

The land they worked.

The food they raised.

The grills they built.

The meals they shared.

The lessons they left behind.

Every bottle carries a piece of that legacy — from Buddy, to Buddy’s boy, to the generations still coming behind us.

Buddy’s Boy is family, flavor, and legacy — rooted in the land and passed down through the table.

Welcome to Buddy’s Boy.

Before Buddy’s Boy was sauce, it was smoke rising from a grill, collards being cut from the garden, hogs being raised on the farm, and family gathering around food made with love.

We are not just bottling sauce. We are bottling the memory of where we come from.
